Rick Harris, president of Ideal Commercial Interiors (ICI), has been in the office interiors and commercial interior design industry for the past 37 years. During that time, he has worked in all facets of the industry including manufacturing, remanufacturing, field services, installations, product design, project management, and sales. During his long career in the business, Rick has witnessed firsthand the evolution of the utilization of office space and the design elements. He has built strong relationships with furniture manufacturers and suppliers from coast to coast allowing him to meet  customer needs at varied price points. His vast knowledge in all aspects of the industry makes ICI a prime candidate for any type of project.

After more than 30 years of doing business in other furniture markets, Rick started ICI in 2012 in Minnesota, focusing on commercial interior design and commercial furniture services for mid-sized companies and major corporations in the private sector. ICI holds contracts with Hennepin County, the University of Minnesota, the City of Saint Paul, and is performing as a subcontractor for major construction companies in the Twin Cities Metro Area. In addition to growing ICI, Rick has served as Vice-President of the National Association of Minority Contractors (NAMC) – Upper Midwest from 2013-2015, and is an active participant of the City of Saint Paul’s Construction Partnering Program (CPP). In 2015, Rick and ICI were recognized as the minority vendor of the year by the University of Minnesota, National Association of Minority Contractors, and North Central MSDC. Rick’s latest venture is co-founding the Minnesota Minority Goods and Services Association (MMGSA). Rick is a positive advocate for minority businesses and is called upon frequently to collaborate with key city, state, and county leaders with the goal of increasing minority business participation, bringing attention to the barriers that underrepresented businesses in Minnesota face, and advancing solutions that promote healthy dialogue and strategies that will result in stronger economic outcomes. Rick also served on the External Review Committee for the 2017 Disparity Study.

Karla Marshall studied interior design at Dunwoody College of Technology earning a Bachelor of Science Degree. Since graduating, she has been in the commercial design/build industry for 5 years doing take-offs (flooring & furniture), sample submits, 3D renderings, contract execution, and project management for a variety of projects such as MSFA Stadium Skyways, U of M Arboretum Bee Center, Target Field and 2700 University Avenue. Karla has joined industry recognized organizations such as the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), National Association of Minority Contractors (NAMC), and the Association of Women Contractors (AWC). She has completed classes with industry leader, JeDunn (Minority Contractor Business Development, MCBD) and AGC (Leadership “Blue Print”). Tim Harris, Director of Operations at Ideal Commercial Interiors (ICI), has a background in marketing, design and project management. During his 3 years at ICI, Tim has worked in several different areas of the business. Day to day, Tim manages client, vendor and sub-contracting relationships, while also acting as the main point of contact on all furniture projects.

Tim is passionate about making connections with people who understand the power of communication as it applies to: public perception, brand management, decision making and storytelling. Tim is a hard working millennial with the soul of a baby boomer. His enthusiasm for innovation and creativity is balanced by technique and a strong desire to learn.

Gwen’s varied background includes 20 years of administrative assistant work, six years as a carpenter, seven years teaching construction and career prep, seven years in restorative justice, and three years in the food industry.

As Office Manager for Ideal Commercial Interiors (ICI), Gwen is responsible for general organization and work flow in the office and, she serves as the liaison between customers, project managers, vendors and our installation team.
